Premiere Exhibition on “1000 years of Islamic Science Rediscovered now open to the public at MTN Sciencentre in Cape Town
For the first time ever, ‘Sultans of Science’ the travelling version of Dubai’s permanent Ibn Battuta Mall exhibition on ‘100 Years of Knowledge Rediscovered’ is open at the MTN Sciencentre in Cape Town South Africa to coincide with the famous annual York Forum which gathers the worlds top scientists and museum heads under one roof.
Researched and prepared by MTE Studios, the ‘Sultans of Science’ exhibition showcases inventions and discoveries by Islamic and inventors between the 7h and 17th century, which laid the foundation for modern science. The exhibition aims to improve the understanding of optics, physics, mechanics, flight, astronomy, cartography, water raising devices, the Elephant Water Clock and the Castle Clock hat will assist teaching the history of science, mechanisms, physics, map making and human body.
Ludo Verheyen, director of MTE offices in Dubai added, ‘Sultans of Science is a unique exhibition, which not only provides you with an insight and rediscovery of missing history, but it also sends a powerful and positive message to the world of embracing multi-cultural knowledge and reconciliation of civilisations.
“The exhibition also features historical innovations from the Islamic world which has assisted us in the fields of science and technology. The travelling exhibit of the Sultans of Science was conceptualised with aim creating an awareness of Islamic contributions to modern day society and developments.”
A quick glimpse of the exhibition shows respected medical discoveries made by the first hospital ever, an Islamic hospital called Maristan headed by Jibrail Bakhtishu. The exhibition also showcases inventions such as al-Jazari’s water raising devices as well as discoveries and studies in astronomy.
